Swiss make a hole in Spains title challenge
It was beautiful to watch. Spain passing the ball with accuracy, pace and incision, even without Premiership stars Torres and Fabregas. It looked like a Spanish goal was coming, and when it came, the floodgates would open.
Problem was, no-one told the Swiss that the World Cup favourites should start the competition with a win. They defended well, placing their bodies on the line. Every player stepped up to the mark, and with Gelson Fernandes scoring in the second half for the Swiss, Switzerland recorded the first upset of the 2010 World Cup.
Spain should resume there usual winning ways in their next match against Honduras, however their final group game against Chile will be very tricky. I believe that Chile will beat Switzerland because of their movement and twin-attacking threat, and that may mean a draw between Chile and Spain may knock the favourites out of the tournament at the group stage!

Oh no - The Germans have turned up again.
There is something worrying for every English man - the Germans are here again!!!
Their 4-0 opening win against Australia shows they mean business again at a major tournement, and this is without captain Michael Ballack and at least four other members of their squad, all out injured.
As a country, Germany are battle ready. It's like the first skill you need as a German footballer is to be a winner. Germany rarely fail, and have enough self belief to ensure a postive result.
With Germany in this form, I hope both Germany and England win their groups so they avoid each other in the last 16 round.

Green England Show Weaknesses
A nation expected. The media piled on the pressure. The players talked confidently.
And so England v USA ended 1-1.
It would be very easy to blame England goalkeeper Robert Green. His error was unbelievable, but to focus on one error would mask over the problems with this England Team.
The Americans exposed England's lack of understanding in central defence, and increased the concern when Jamie Carragher, replacing the injured Ledley King alongside John Terry struggled for pace against their American opponents.
And for all the good midfield possession, England struggled to create clear cut chances. The final ball from Lennon and Wright-Phillips lacked quality and conviction. Emile Heskey, with the best chance of the second half, showed why he has such a poor scoring record.
However, all is not lost. In 1990, England drew their opening game against Ireland, and made the semi-finals. In 1966, England opened with a draw against Uruguay, and we all now how that ended.
Fabio Capello has options. He should stick with Robert Green, to drop him would destroy a decent keeper, however it is now time to play in-form players. Micheal Dawson is the only central defender with pace left in the squad, and should provide the cover for Ledely King. There is a real need for the creative genius of Joe Cole to create clear cut chances for Rooney and co.
Algeria and Slovenia will be easier games for England, it's time to use them to mould the team for the knockout stages,

South Africa draws us into the World Cup
It's started. The 2010 FIFA World Cup erupted in vivid color with a passionate opening cermoney showcasing the colour of Africa.
The opening match, involving hosts South Africa and Mexico, threatened to bust the party atmosphere. The talented Mexicans poked and proded the South Africa defence, which somehow held out until half-time.
Second-half, the South African's settled, and made the Mexicans pay for their lack of end product by scoring the first goal of the tournement, Tshabalala scoring with a superb shot across the poorly positioned Perez into the top corner.
Mexico respoded with a host of attacking subsitutions, and finally got their reward when Marquez scored from close range after South Africian captain Mokena played three Mexician players onside.
Whilst both sides would be happy not losing their opening game, the result of the second game of the day would demostrate a missed opportunity.
Frane and Uruguay played out a dull draw in Cape Town. France looking very disinterested, and Uruguay failing to sence that France where there for the taking.
If Uruguay could of supplied real chances for their strikers Suarez and Forlan, then French coach Domenech would of been departing his job soon!
Uruguay subsitute Nicolas Lodeiro became the first player to be dismissed, for two bookable offensives.
And finally, a not about the referees, both had really good games, and got all the major decisions correct.

Lazy journos killing journalism with Twitter
Have you heard the new media buzz word. Used not only daily, but nearly hourly by both print and television media, and also their online operations.
Every lazy journalist seems to take twitter posts as facts. The writers are also using twitter posts as quotable facts.
Investigation journalism seems to require no more ability than to use the Twitter search box to gain all the "facts" of the story.
Add this to the continued dumbing down of the news, and the large amount of spelling and grammar mistakes, is there any wonder that news consummation is decreasing and that online news services are not generating revenue.
